So you want to visit PNG but can't find answers to your questions, right? Which are the best places to go to? Where will I stay? Is it safe? What food do they serve? What transport is available? Will I get charged more because I'm a foreigner? What if I get stranded? How can I book?
You've come to the right website.
Papua New Guinea is one of the last places in the world where discerning visitors can escape from the beach-and-palm tree tourist crowds to experience traditional stone-age cultures and some of the most spectacular geography and wildlife on earth.
To do this you need to leave the comfort and convenience of city hotels and stay in the smaller, less salubrious village guest houses, rainforest lodges and beach bungalows which are scattered across the country in places your local travel agent has never heard of. Away from the hot, dusty streets of Port Moresby and Lae, away from a la carte menus and airconditioned tour buses, away from electricity, telephones and TV: this is where you will come face to face with "ol grasruts manmeri bilong Papua Niugini" (the grassroots people of PNG) and the fascinating natural and cultural environments in which they live. This, of course, is the real Papua New Guinea.
And this is our turf.
With so much ground to cover in a country of this size, travellers on a time limit and a budget often need a hand to plan a realistic itinerary. Ecotourism Melanesia is here to help. Here on our website you will find essential information for visiting each province, plus our recommendations on what to see and where to stay. We are the premier booking agency for village lodges, guest houses and homestays in rural PNG. Many of these places don't even have a phone, so we make use of HF radio, letters and even message carriers to book you in. And by pre-paying for your accommodation, you can rest assured that somebody will be there to meet you when you arrive.
Plus we're here to help if things don't work out as you planned.
PNG is often referred to as the "Land of the Unexpected", a country where the most meticulous forward planning can sometimes be undone by something as simple as a change in the weather. Our Port Moresby office offers our clients 24-hour assistance with reorganising travel arrangements, passing messages and even sending up the bottle of insect repellent you left behind in your hotel.
We invite you to explore exotic PNG.
