In early 2009 one of our guides accompanied the BBC film crew that shot the BBC wildlife documentary at Mt Bosavi in the Southern Highlands of PNG that was watched by 4 million viewers in the UK. The expedition unearthed 16 new species of frog, three new fish species, a bat and a giant woolly rat never before documented by science.

Our guide knows all the right spots to take you to immerse yourself in this ancient volcanic caldera brimming with undiscovered species. We are now working on an expedition itinerary to be released on this page soon. Tours will operate for groups only, on demand, via Kikori.

EM33 is a semi-guided package for independent travellers keen to experience the contrasting natural environments of Papua New Guinea, including riverine (Ekame), tropical montane (Crater Mountain), coastal (Kamiali) and estuarine (Kikori). The focus of this tour is on native plants and animals, and the locals who share their habitats. December to February is turtle nesting season at Kamiali.

EM31 MAINLAND NEW GUINEA BIRDWATCHING TOUR
20 nights Kiunga, Tabubil, Mt Hagen, Minj, Goroka, Madang, Port Moresby with optional extension 3 nights Kikori
This is the “grand tour” of accessible bird watching sites on the Papua New Guinea mainland. The tour is designed for serious ornithologists who are happy to stay in some lower standard hotels and lodges in order to be closer to the action. On this tour, all birding sites are within close proximity of the accommodation or vehicle drop-off point at each location, and no arduous jungle trekking is involved. The core package is 20 nights but can be shortened by skipping one or more stops.

This hassle-free hotel-based tour is available year-round and offers easily accessible bird watching locations that do not require long road trips, jungle expeditions, swamp-stomping or sleeping in bush camps. Birding bliss without getting blisters and wet feet. Birding excursions include full catering, good quality vehicles and trained nature guides.

EM19 TAURI RIVER ADVENTURE
4 nights Tauri River (Gulf Province) - camping and village stays
Four hours road trip from from Port Moresby, the Tauri River runs almost parallel to the Lakekamu River and shares a similar range of bird, reptile and amphibian species as the Lakekamu Basin, a renowned biodiversity hotspot. During this river journey and return hike your guides will show you nesting and perching spots where you can observe and photograph a variety of river and rainforest birds and animals. Crocodiles are small and shy, cassowaries are plentiful (considered a pest) and even more shy because the locals are quite partial to the tough meat.
