Climbers at the summit of Mt Wilhelm
EM77 Climb Mt Wilhelm
3 nights ex-Port Moresby
Mt WIlhelm is PNG's highest mountain at 4500 metres. This is a non-technical climb - special equipment and oxygen tanks are not required but it is still a tough climb up steep paths and requires above-average physical fitness in order to avoid the effects of altitude sickness.

Foothills leading to Mt Albert Edward

EM9A Climb Mt Albert Edward
7 nights ex-Port Moresby
Mt Albert Edward in the Owen Stanely Ranges of Central Province has two domes, east and west. The west dome is higher, and at 3990 metres this is PNG's second highest peak after Mt Wilhelm. Getting there is quite an expedition for FIT travellers because the nearest airstrip at Yongai has no scheduled flights and you must hike in from Woitape with a guide, porters and supplies. (Flying into Yongai by charter plane is economical for larger groups). Mt Albert Edward is a non-technical climb similar in difficulty to Mt Wilhelm. Altitude sickness is the major risk.
