This expeditionary tour is the first of its kind to be offered in Papua New Guinea. We sample three contrasting Papuan cultures (Tufi, Papuan Gulf, Gogodala) and visit remote villages way off the tourist trail… off any trail in fact. Although the disadvantage of small-group expeditionary travel is the inevitable high overhead costs, the reward is the opportunity to observe and experience the rapidly evolving lifestyles of rural Papuan peoples that the rest of the world has forgotten … or perhaps never discovered in the first place.

Goroka Show - skeleton dance
Our popular Goroka Show tour operates again in 2008, flying also into remote Simbai to witness the annual culture festival of the Kalam tribe. You will see a nose piercing ritual, killing of pigs, feasting and dancing which is all part of a week-long festival rarely visited by tourists.

Explore the historical coastal townships of Finschhafen and Salamaua, ponder the sombre beach-head battlefields of Gona and Buna and visit both the northern and southern ends of the famous Kokoda Track. The tour is designed for war veterans and their families and others interested in New Guinea’s wartime history. There is no strenuous exercise involved apart from climbing in and out of boats and some easy walking. Tour leader: local journalist and historian Mr Malum Nalu.

Sepik crocodile dance
This small group tour provides an opportunity for visitors to attend a rural festival crowded by locals rather than tourists. The Sepik Crocodile Festival is an initiative of WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) as part of its sustainable development programs being carried out in the Sepik River basin. The tour group, escorted personally by Aaron Hayes, director of Ecotourism Melanesia, visits the Upper and Middle Sepik, the Wewak Islands, and exotic Simbai in the Madang highlands.
