GENERAL INFORMATION

Manus province, named after the largest of the Admiralty Islands, is spread over a 260 square km expanse in the north of the Bismarck Sea.The Hermit and Ninigo islands to the west consists of islets, reefs and atolls that host some of the best diving, snorkeling and fishing spots in the world.

During WW2 Manus was invaded by the Japanese,who in turn were displaced by the Americans.Lombrum was an important naval and aircraft base constructed and used by the Americans in the Pacific campaign. Infact, one can still come accross numerous relics and remnants of that time.

In Manus, life and the sea are synonymous. People fish, dive for shells, climb coconuts, surf the waves and sprawl on the white sandy beaches. At night they sit around a bonfire and sing melodious songs to the sounds of the ukelele and garamut.

When there's a festival, the Manus dance, with its rolling high tempo drum beats and beautiful young dancers(who sometimes fasten exagerated representations of the human anatomy as part of their costume)is a spectacle worth marveling at and worth a laugh.
